The world is a terrible place not to have a best friend.

Scarlett was always the strong one.

Halley was always content to follow in her wake.

Then Scarlett's boyfriend died, and Scarlett learned that she was pregnant.

Now Halley has to find the strength to take the lead and help Scarlett get through it.

Because true friendship is a promise you keep forever.

There's only so much faith you can have in people.
You haven't experienced contemporary until you've read at least one Sarah Dessen book, or so I've heard. Someone Like You was my first Sarah Dessen novel, you'd think I'd have read one sooner considering I got to meet her at YALLFest 2014. For my first Dessen read, I found that I really enjoyed myself.
With most of the YA books I've encountered you don't see pregnancy, and it's understandable because from the moment you hit puberty girls are told to either wait to have sex or to make sure you use protection. With most YA characters being in the age range of 15-18, most of the girls would not be a mother yet, but teenage pregnancy does happen and I'm glad to see it acknowledged.
Characters in YA novels tend to be pushed to a breaking point, most of the time in dystopian novels or fantasy ones because they are 'destined' to save the world and the pressure of it all is too much for them to handle. But what about the pressures of the life today? School, family, the thought of the future, it can all be too much to handle as well. The characters of Someone Like You experienced this in the book, and I'm glad they did it. It showed us that we aren't the only ones with this stress and pressure. Sometimes life doesn't go the way you want and bad stuff happens, you can't always fix it either, even if it does suck.
Someone Like You was a very realistic book which you could relate to in more then one way. Someone Like You will not be my last Sarah Dessen book.
