Waiting on Wednesday (6)

Trial by Fire

Author: Josephine Angelini
The Worldwalker Trilogy
Expected: September 2nd, 2014
Feiwel and Friends

Description from GoodReads:

This world is trying to kill Lily Proctor. Her life-threatening allergies keep her from enjoying experiences that others in her hometown of Salem take for granted, which is why she is determined to enjoy her first high school party with her best friend and longtime crush, Tristan. But after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class, Lily wishes she could just disappear.

Suddenly, Lily is in a different Salem—one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruelest of them all is Lillian . . . Lily's other self in this alternate universe.

What makes Lily weak at home is what makes her extraordinary in New Salem. In this confusing world, Lily is torn between responsibilities she can't hope to shoulder alone and a love she never expected.

Why I Want It:

I have been and always will be a greek mythology fan, so I just had to pick up Josephine's other series, The Starcrossed Trilogy. It was a new and unique read, so I just knew I had to read any more of Josephine's books that were to come. I also tend to be a sucker for witch books, so here we are!

Why You Should Want it:

   I honestly find the thought of having another you in a different universe fascinating, so why would you? They could be the totally opposite of you, or maybe totally they could be just like you but in a totally different world. The possibilities are endless. You should want to read this book just because you'd like to see what Lily's other self is like, but you know wanting to read this book because of witches is cool too(;

That was my Waiting on Wednesday for this week, what are you waiting on this week? Will you be picking up Trial by Fire in September? Let me know in the comments!

Blog Tour: The Poisoned Emerald by Sasha & Sarena Nanua

   Hey Everyone!
   Welcome to the Poisoned Emerald Blog Tour! Ohana Reads will be your host today, i.e me(;
For this stop today I have for you an excerpt from Poisoned Emerald itself! I hope you enjoy!

The Poisoned Emerald by Sasha & Sarena Nanua

Release Date: September 2014
Publisher: iUniverse
Series: The Pendant Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

   The poison is spreading....

I wrapped myself in the portal’s embrace and felt my feet land on a new surface. I stood on a sandy beach that was wet and damp, causing the ground to stick to my shoes. The portal snapped shut, and I felt misty rain dance on my shoulders. Thunder sounded from overhead, and before I could comprehend the impending storm, a gash of lightning hit the hill just to the right of the river. The ground quaked below me before an explosion of sand burst from the ground.

AS WINTER ARRIVES Arica Miller is back to regular school life at Hill Valley. After resolving the disappearance of the King’s Jewel and returning it safely, Arica doesn’t expect anything else to go wrong. Too soon does Arica learn that a great evil—a poison—has spread through the Sorcerers Underworld, threatening to take away all magic. And worse, the only person who can save the magical world has been kidnapped: the king. In order to find the king, Arica and her friends must follow an ancient prophecy in which they must defeat vicious creatures, travel through mysterious forests, and restore peace to the poisoned land—no matter how dangerous it could be … In this final installment of The Pendant Trilogy, Arica learns of dark pasts, unknowable futures, and the truth of the pendant’s origin. Arica doesn’t have much time left—and if she fails, the mortal and the magical worlds are both at stake.

Something cold. Something very, very cold.
That was my first sensation, though I didn’t have much time to think of it. The scenery before me was ice again—pure ice, except now the ice was so close I could almost touch it …
“No!” someone cried, but the voice was soon muffled. I knew that voice. Janine. My cousin. Where was she? Where had everyone gone? It wasn’t until that moment that I realized something was holding me. Something cool wrapped around my waist, as large as a pond, gripping me. My head lifted and then leaned backward. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust and truly understand what I was looking at.
The face was made of ice. It had two devilishly cold eyes almost as large as the moon.
“Child is awake,” it said, cool mist running from the Ice Giant’s mouth. “It’s dinner time.”

That was a lovely excerpt! I hope you guys are all excited for Poisoned Emerald like I am! Thanks for stopping by!

Blog Tour: Tortured Souls by Kimber Leigh Wheaton

   Hey Everyone!
Welcome to the Tortured Souls blog tour! I am your host for today! Today I have for you a review of Tortured Souls, so let's go check it out!

Tortured Souls by Kimber Leigh Wheatoon

Release Date: June 29th, 2014
Read: August 10th- 22nd, 2014
Publisher: Sea Dragon Press
Series: The Orion Circle #1
Format: eBook, 227 pages
Source: Author in exchange for an honest review/blog tour

Description from GoodReads:

Sometimes Rest in Peace isn't an option.

Kacie Ramsey sees ghosts—and it's ruining her life. Her mother left, her father blames her, and no matter how hard she tries, she can't keep the ghosts away. Now a new power has emerged. Nightly visions of grisly murders and a relentless predator draw her to the brink of insanity.

When the phantom appears at a party, Kacie's longtime crush, Logan, saves her. He invites her to join the Orion Circle, a group of supernatural hunters with chapters in schools all over the country. Through the Circle, Kacie learns to embrace her spiritual powers, and for the first time in her life she feels in control rather than a victim.

But the Foxblood Demon will not give up so easily. A demented serial killer in life who trapped the souls of the thirteen children he murdered, imprisoning them within the walls of his mansion. Now in death, he plots his return while drawing power from the pure souls of the children. He recognizes something in Kacie he's never seen before—a medium powerful enough to provide a vessel for his tainted soul.

Kacie can't ignore the tortured souls of the children crying out to her every night. With Logan at her side, she will fight the Foxblood Demon. But can they banish this powerful phantom, or will Kacie lose not only her body, but her eternal soul to the monster.

Review:

When I had first heard of The Orion Circle I had thought it would somewhat Greek related, because of course having the name Orion in it. I was somewhat right, with Orion being a Hunter.
I had loved the idea of this book, hunters, visions, ghosts, all the short of things that I adore reading about! Going into this book I was excited, and I was glad that I was! I enjoyed this book tremendously, but there is always going to be a few quirks that not everyone is going to enjoy. For me it was the beginning of the book.
I felt as if the introduction to the book was completely skipped and we just jumped right into a scene of acton. For instance we learnt that Kacie could see ghosts before we even had a chance to know her name.
Tortured Souls was a fun fast paced novel that I immensely enjoyed. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.

Book Review: Oceanborn by Amalie Howard

Read: July 19-25th, 2014
Release Date: July 29th, 2014
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Series: The Aquarathi
Format: Paperback, 384 pages
Source: Author in exchange for honest review/ book pendants

Description from GoodReads:

   The coronation is over.

But the battle has just begun.

Nerissa Marin has won her crown. But can she keep it? Already, her ties to the human realm are driving a wedge between Nerissa and her people. When word arrives that her part-human prince consort, Lo, has been poisoned, she makes the difficult choice to leave Waterfell and return landside. As the royal courts debate her decision, even more disturbing rumors surface: a plot is rising against her, led by someone she least expects.

On land, Nerissa learns another shocking truth: Lo does not remember who she is. As her choice to try to save him threatens her hold on her crown, changing loyalties and uncertainty test her courage in ways she could never have imagined. Nerissa will have one last chance to prove herself as a queen …and save the undersea kingdom she loves.

Review:

Contains Spoilers:

Fight, Nerissa.
When I finished Waterfell I needed to get my hands on Oceanborn immediately.  When I finally did, I died of happiness. Waterfell was one of my favourite reads for 2013 and Oceanborn was easily another favourite for 2014.
Oceanborn starts only a few months after Waterfell left off, with Nerissa ruling the Aquarathi in the ocean. While Waterfell was mostly about Niss being in hiding and living a human life, Oceanborn focuses a lot more on the royal side of her life. We may have only been in the royal court for a small period of time, the royal entourage followed Niss back to the human world where we definitely saw a lot of them. I really liked this change from Waterfell, with more of the royal attitude to the book we got to see both sides of Nerissa, the teenage girl and the Aquarathi Queen.
At this point I have to believe our characters have the worst luck, or it could have been that Niss and Speio grew up together and that they make the same mistakes. Either way bonding didn't/doesn't come easy for them. Niss accidentally bonded with Lo and now Speio accidentally bonded with Rian.  I knew something was up with Rian from the beginning, but now we know why. This was a big plot twist for the series and I can't wait to find out where it leads us.
I find that when reading a book before it's officially released causes me heartaches, the reason? The wait is even longer for the next book and must I say. I need the third book now, like right now.  Fortunately while I wait, I will definitely will check out Amalie's ebook novella from Speios point of view called SeaMonster.

Ghost House

Author: Alexandra Adornetto
The Ghost House Saga
Expected: August 26th, 2014
Harlequin Teen

Description from GoodReads:

After the loss of her mother, Chloe Kennedy starts seeing the ghosts that haunted her as a young girl again. Spending time at her grandmother's country estate in the south of England is her chance to get away from her grief and the spirits that haunt her. Until she meets a mysterious stranger…

Alexander Reade is 157 years dead, with secrets darker than the lake surrounding Grange Hall and a lifelike presence that draws Chloe more strongly than any ghost before. But the bond between them awakens the vengeful spirit of Alexander's past love, Isobel. And she will stop at nothing to destroy anyone who threatens to take him from her.

To stop Isobel, Chloe must push her developing abilities to their most dangerous limits, even if it means losing Alex forever… and giving the hungry dead a chance to claim her for their own.

Why I Want It:

I loved Alexandra's previous YA series Halo,  so hearing about her new series I just have to get my hands on a copy! Plus who doesn't love a ghost story?

Why You Should Want It:

As I said, GHOSTS. Alexandra just knows how to write a romance, so romance + ghosts? This book is going to be a must have!

That's my Waiting on Wednesday for this week! Will you be picking up your copy at the end of August? What are you waiting on this week? Let me know in the comments!(:

Book Review: Cress by Marissa Meyer

Release Date: February 4th, 2014
Read: July 17th, 2014
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Series: The Lunar Chronicles
Format: Hardcover, 550 pages
Source: Bought

Description from GoodReads:

In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

Review:

I accept those odds.
I had first seen the series in a magazine oddly enough, because I tend to never read those. The red heel on the cover of Cinder tugged and tugged at my conscience until I finally gave in and bought the book. I was astonished by the unique and unusualness of the world that is The Lunar Chronicles. Since I picked up Cinder, The Lunar Chronicles has been a must buy series. Which is how I came to read Cress.
Cress continues almost immediately where Scarlet left off, all character in tow. Although with a new narrator, her name is Crescent or rather Cress for sort. I rather loved this character, she was young and juvenile. Which to say meant she had no experience with the world, this made for an even more astounding character. With Cress being from Luna, she had never really seen Earth. What she had seen was only from pictures on her computer. So when she had finally gotten the chance to explore Earth, she was amazed by everything. She would see the true beauty in everything around her , even the simple things that we'd taken for granted. This was my favourite quality of Cress.
Then there was Captain Carswell Throne.  I am like Cress with that one, he is a dreamy piece of hunk. Hubba bubba! Easy to say I rooting for him out of all of the boys. Cress's obsession with Throne is adorable, Cress is a classic fangirl. She's one of us! This was another trait of Cress's that I could relate too! The fact that Throne was charming and encouraging was also adorable. You'd have thought he'd be a little creeped out at the fact that she's a little bit of a stalker aha.
With the world, the characters and all of the adventure makes out an out of this world read! Marissa knows her stuff, I can not wait for Winter to be released! I need to know where Cinder and crew travel next!
